BATON ROUGE — Residents at The Reserve at Joor apartment complex are frustrated by ongoing trash problems after the removal of several dumpsters. The only available roll-off dumpster frequently overflows, forcing tenants to toss their garbage over the top and sometimes into undesignated areas.

Constance Steen, a resident since December, has repeatedly contacted management about the issue since July. 

"It fills up really quick, maybe in a day or two, it's full," Steen said. 

She added that the situation has not improved despite her ongoing efforts to communicate with the property office.

Over the summer, management removed smaller dumpsters located in gated areas along the property line, citing high costs and misuse. According to Steen, this change led to residents throwing trash over fences where dumpsters used to be, creating unsightly and smelly piles.

A manager at the complex explained that the large roll-off dumpster is only a temporary solution and that the plans are in place to install a second trash compactor. However, even the existing trash compactor at the front of the property often reaches capacity, leaving tenants with few options for proper disposal.

With 15 buildings and just two trash locations, many residents continue to leave their garbage in former dumpster areas. Steen believes the solution is simple: "I just think they need to add more dumpsters; it will solve the problem."

Despite the inconvenience, Steen says she enjoys her apartment, but hopes management will take action soon so she and her neighbors can live in a cleaner environment. 

The management company, CST Multifamily, says they plan to get a second roll-off dumpster in place soon to help manage the large volume of trash.
