Backup QB battle brewing in New Orleans?
NEW ORLEANS - Since the offseason began, the top two spots on the New Orleans Saints' QB depth chart have not been questioned. Tyler Shough is the obvious starter, and Spencer Rattler has been the backup. But after week one of the preseason, former second overall draft pick Zach Wilson might've made this a competition for the backup QB spot.
Rattler didn't have a great game against Jacksonville. Neither did Wilson, but Wilson made plays and Rattler simply didn't. Rattler lost a fu,ble inside New Orleans' 10-yard line, and Wilson didn't.
"Obviously, I'm here to compete," said Wilson. "I would love to be the two, I would love to find my way up there. That's why I chose to come here."
With the Saints heading into another week of practice, one with joint sessions with the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams, Wilson could find himself playing with the 2's.
"We'll continue to get these guys all these different reps," said Saints head coach Kellen Moore. "I think the world of our quarterback room. I think it's as talented of a group as I've ever been around."
