BATON ROUGE – The Baton Rouge Area Foundation, with support from a W.K. Kellogg Foundation grant, is offering a free program to help people clear property titles for residents in flood-damaged homes.

According to BRAF, FEMA has denied funding to more than 2,500 people in disaster-impacted parishes who could not prove home ownership. The new free program could potentially make low-income residents eligible for hundreds or thousands of dollars in federal grants to help in repairing their flood-damaged homes.

With a clear title, homeowners may receive money for rebuilding their homes that were impacted from the flood.

To qualify for the program, the flooded home must be the resident's primary residence and located in East Baton Rouge, Livingston and Ascension parishes. Residents must also meet an income eligibility.

People can apply for assistance at apply.lanonprofitjustice.org or by calling 1-844-244-7871.

BRAF and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation hope to clear 500 titles while searching for ongoing funding for the program. Both organizations have come together to commit $550,000 to the program.

Also contributing to the program are Capital Area United Way, Greater New Orleans Foundation and the Louisiana Bar Foundation.

The program will be overseen by Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, who is partnering with the following organizations for the work:

- Baton Rouge Bar Foundation

- Southern University Law Center

- LSU Law Clinic

- Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana Appleseed

- Equal Justice Works

- Louisiana State Bar Association

- Louisiana Bar Foundation

- East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority
