IRVING, Texas — The College Football Playoff is exploring a potential playoff expansion to 24 teams, it said in a press release.

No immediate decision or commitment has been made regarding expansion. The current model allows 12 teams to make the playoff.

The College Football Playoff said that it would be beginning a media rights discussion with ESPN, and that discussion would act as an "opportunity to engage with ESPN and gather additional information to help determine a path forward."

Per Yahoo Sports, the negotiating window is for 30 days.
