BATON ROUGE - Residents along Wartelle Ave. at Tara Blvd are concerned over how a Baton Rouge sewer project is being handled.

Suzie Adler says along with her neighbors, she's been left in the dark about what's happening and their properties have been damaged. Adler is also worried about the safety of residents, who walk in the area while workers are moving heavy machinery.

The City-Parish hired Grady Crawford to do this project and a number of others. The project along Wartelle Ave. includes putting a 60 in. pipe under ground.

For the past few months, Adler says she has a problem with how the work has been handled.

"No notification to the neighbors, no communication, we've asked about what's going on," she said.

Since December, Adler has been documenting the work of the crew. She says crews have blocked her driveway, left equipment in her yard and dropped heavy dividers to the ground, shaking her house. As a result, she says cracks on the inside and outside of her home have developed. Tuesday, a crew dropped machinery onto one of her crepe myrtles. Adler says she watched as the crew attempted to hoist the crepe myrtle back into place.

"It's the quality of the workmanship," she said. "The people that are unsupervised, the safety, the general lack of concern for our property and our neighbors. They're working in a residential area."

Tuesday afternoon, Adler contacted 2 On Your Side. WBRZ asked the City-Parish about the work and it said it won't approve the project until it's done correctly. Wednesday morning, Adler says a new crew arrived at her home with supervisors and representatives of the SSO Program.

Adler hopes the crew works safely from here on out and communicates with the neighborhood.

The City-Parish says the crew has started restoration, repairing the road, sidewalks and yards.
