ABBEVILLE — Gov. Jeff Landry, along with several other elected officials from across Louisiana, is gathering in Vermilion Parish on Tuesday to make a major economic announcement, which is expected to be the formal confirmation that Elon Musk's SpaceX will build its next launch pad around Pecan Island.

Landry is set to make the announcement at 11 a.m. at Magdalen Place in Abbeville.

Rumors have been swirling about the development of SpaceX's next launch pad near Pecan Island for months, but official channels have yet to confirm talks with Musk's company.

When WBRZ went to Abbeville earlier this week, one resident said they signed an NDA with a SpaceX employee.

Residents in the parish also said that, if SpaceX is coming to the area, it will completely change the parish's infrastructure and economy, but some residents have expressed concerns that any jobs coming to the area may not go to locals.

Earlier this month, reports came out that ExxonMobil entered a settlement with SpaceX to allow the launch site to move forward on around 130,000 acres of land owned by the oil company in Vermilion.
