LSU Women's Basketball to honor Angel Reese at halftime of Texas Southern game
BATON ROUGE — The Bayou Barbie is returning to where her collegiate career took flight.
LSU Women’s Basketball announced that former Tigers superstar Angel Reese will receive a special halftime recognition on Thursday, Nov. 5, when No. 9 LSU hosts Texas Southern at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Reese celebrated the news on social media, posting, "THE BAYOU BARBIE IS BACK!"
The ceremony follows a high-impact professional campaign for Reese in the WNBA. In her debut season with the Atlanta Dream—and her third year in the league after earning consecutive WNBA All-Star honors—Reese powered Atlanta to a run in the WNBA Finals against the Golden State Valkyries. She set marks on the pro stage by becoming the youngest player in WNBA history to record three straight double-doubles in the Finals, finishing the series with four double-doubles, including a 30-point, 16-rebound masterclass in Game 2.
Before turning pro, Reese led LSU through one of the most dominant two-year stretches in the program's history. After transferring to Baton Rouge, she powered LSU to its first-ever national championship in 2023, earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. She followed that with 2024 SEC Player of the Year accolades after leading the conference in both scoring and rebounding in back-to-back seasons. Across 67 games for the Tigers, Reese scored in double figures every time out, averaging 20.9 points and 14.4 rebounds while amassing 61 double-doubles.
