BATON ROUGE - A man who allegedly drove the getaway car after two of his passengers stole $8,700 worth of cigarettes from a Baton Rouge RaceTrac gas station was arrested.

Booking documents say 58-year-old Eddie Carr was waiting outside of the convenience store on Old Hammond Highway shortly before 3 a.m. on Oct. 13 while two masked men were inside, stuffing cartons of cigarettes into trash bags.

An affidavit says the men piled into Carr's car, which had a temporary tag on the back.

Officers tailed the vehicle, which drove through a BREC park on Parkview Drive before the alleged robbers and driver bailed from the car and ran.

Police used a drone and K-9s to find Carr, who reportedly hid in a nearby neighborhood for more than 30 minutes.

BRPD officers said they found two large trash bags of cigarettes, which were later taken back to the store. Police also said a stolen handgun was found stuffed behind the driver's seat.

The report says Carr, who does not have a driver's license, told officers he was only the driver and he would give BRPD the robbers' names. Arrest warrants for the alleged robbers Kevonte Green and Franklin Bennet were filed.

Carr was booked for simple robbery, resisting an officer, aggravated flight from an officer, illegal possession of stolen firearms, driving without a license and running a red light.
