BATON ROUGE — Southern University football coach Marshall Faulk said Tuesday that Ckelby Givens is coming back to play football for the Jaguars after being granted a temporary restraining order.

Givens was announced as returning to the Jaguars last week. His return was initially put on hold due to a federal appeals court pausing an order to grant an extra year of eligibility for 2022 graduates. 

Faulk, on Tuesday, said that Givens filed a separate temporary restraining order to be able to have a fifth year of eligibility and play at Southern for another year. This order was granted, Faulk said. 

The Southern University Jaguars kick off their football season this weekend on the road against the Alabama State Hornets, with Faulk saying Givens will play in this game. 

Saturday's game will be the first time the Jags will be led on the field by head coach Marshall Faulk. Faulk, a former NFL running back, was hired by Southern in 2025 after the firing of Terrence Graves following a 1-6 start to last season.

Ahead of Saturday's 2 p.m. game in Montgomery, Faulk provided an update on the team's preparations after Tuesday morning's practice.
