People of Hope celebrates compassion with traveling museum coming to Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE — The People of Hope Museum is coming to Baton Rouge, hosted by the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
The agency said the museum will be at St. George Catholic Church and School at 7880 Saint George Dr. from Oct. 23-25. Admission is free.
It will be open from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday
Catholic Charities says the museum includes more than 40 video stories from staff and volunteers across the country. Visitors can also share their own stories in a recording studio and try an interactive poverty simulator.
The museum also offers information about poverty in Louisiana and across the United States. Visitors can listen to book excerpts about poverty, social isolation, bridge-building, and community action.
"These stories reflect the heart of our faith in action," Catholic Charities Executive Director Stephanie Sterling said. "The People of Hope Museum celebrates the compassion, mercy and hope that emerge when people respond to the Gospel call to serve those in need. We are excited to welcome this unique experience to Baton Rouge and share the inspiring stories that remind us we are all called to be instruments of hope."
