The Capital Region gets a dry weekend with plenty of sunshine and temperatures running several degrees above normal. A disturbance sliding through Monday could bring some showers and thunderstorms before the heat settles back in. 

Today and Tonight:  Saturday will be hot, sunny, and dry across the Capital Region, with afternoon highs in the lower to middle 90s. Winds will stay light, and there is essentially no rain chance for the area. Tonight will remain quiet with mostly clear skies and lows in the lower to mid-70s.

College Football:  It's a busy Saturday night for football. LSU travels to Oxford to take on Ole Miss with temperatures in the mid 90s around the 6:30 p.m. kickoff, while Southern hosts its game in Baton Rouge with kickoff temperatures around 92 degrees. Both games should stay dry, but it will be a hot start for fans heading into the stadiums. Temperatures will gradually ease through the evening, but it will remain warm for the first part of both games.

Up Next: Sunday stays mostly dry and hot, with highs again in the lower to mid-90s. A few spots could see heat index values in the lower 100s, but widespread heat impacts are not expected to warrant an advisory at this time. The bigger change comes Monday as a disturbance slides into the region and brings the best opportunity for showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances will increase, but the latest forecast does not suggest a widespread washout.

After that system moves through Monday night and Tuesday, high pressure builds back in. That should keep most of the week hot and mostly dry, with only isolated to scattered storms, mainly near the coast.

Tropics: Tropical activity is increasing in the eastern subtropical Atlantic as AL99 becomes better organized. The National Hurricane Center gives the system a 90% chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm later today or tonight, but it is expected to remain well southwest of the Azores.
