Rain returns to the area today, with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms developing this morning and continuing into tonight. The activity will be hit or miss, but some Halloween plans could be interrupted by passing rain before the wetter weather gradually improves Sunday.

Today and tonight:  A weak disturbance moving across the region will help bring showers and a few thunderstorms back to south Louisiana today. A few showers are possible through the morning, with rain chances increasing into the afternoon.

Halloween Trick-or-Treat Forecast: Scattered showers could affect Halloween festivities this evening. The best chance for rain will be from this afternoon through tonight, but showers will be hit or miss. That means one neighborhood could have a passing shower while another nearby stays completely dry.

Up Next: Showers will linger into Sunday, with most of the moderate to heavier rain expected to move out by midday. Clouds will hang around, and a few lighter showers may continue into the start of the week as another front approaches. Rain chances should decrease Monday as conditions turn drier.

The next, stronger system arrives Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain will begin during the day Tuesday, potentially affecting Election Day plans, before a cold front moves through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. A few strong to severe storms will be possible along that front. The severe threat is not expected to be widespread. We'll continue to monitor the timing and potential impacts as the system gets closer. Cooler air follows the front, with temperatures settling close to seasonal averages Wednesday through Saturday.

Tropics: The National Hurricane Center does not expect tropical cyclone formation in the Atlantic basin during the next seven days.
