Support workers in East Baton Rouge public schools to receive an extra $1,000 before the New Year
BATON ROUGE — Support workers in East Baton Rouge public schools will receive an extra $1,000 ahead of the Christmas holidays.
The move follows an executive order from Gov. Jeff Landry mandating stipends for school employees around the state.
On Thursday, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board voted to issue $1,000 checks to all eligible support workers in the district, with the checks scheduled to be paid on Dec. 23.
In June, Landry issued an executive order cutting $168 million from the state's main education fund, mandating that the funds be used to give $2,000 stipends to teachers and $1,000 to school support staff.
