BATON ROUGE - A shocking find at an apartment when a couple living there came home to nothing. While they were on vacation, their furniture was moved out for a paint job.

Lisa and Tim Villar say their furniture is damaged and they want someone to take responsibility.

"It's just one more thing to deal with that we didn't need right now," said Tim Villar.

A few weeks ago, these flood victims started moving back into their Denham Springs home. Moving clothing and other items to their renovated house. For the past year, they've been renting a unit at Oakleigh Apartments on Perkins Road in Baton Rouge and had paid their rent through September.

September ninth was the last day they were in the apartment before they locked their apartment door and went on an Alaskan cruise. The Villars say they returned to the apartment on September 30 to move their beds, couch and remaining furniture out of the unit and turn in their keys. When they unlocked the door, they were in for quite a shock.

"Went in the door and we're like, uh, where's the couch?" said Tim.

All the furniture they had left in the apartment was gone.

"They took the mattresses that we're hardly used and the couch that looks really nice," said Lisa.

What was left in the apartment had been moved.

"Then we started to piece it together and looking around you could tell they went in there and painted," said Tim.

Photos of the apartment show signs of paint left around the kitchen sink. Blinds were removed from the windows. With movers in-tow, the Villars went to the front office looking for their belongings.

They turned in their keys and started to put a list together of what was missing along with their monetary value. The Villars say the total cost of the furniture removed from the apartment added up to $7,800.

On October 11, Tim Villar says Oakleigh Apartments notified him that "the stuff magically reappeared" from the painting company.

Tim Villar says the mattresses are torn, soiled, and stained. Lisa says there are gauges in the wood on her couch. Now more than two weeks after they moved out, the Villar's are asking Oakleigh Apartments for reimbursement for their furniture and September rent.

Calls, emails, and messages to Oakleigh Apartments were not returned. Oakleigh Apartments is managed by Bluestone Property Management.
