Wilkinson County kicks off 2025-26 school year, with some changes
WOODVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi school district in Wilkinson County is gearing up for the new year, which comes with slight changes.
WBRZ spoke with Woodville Police Chief about how the 2025-26 year will differ from previous years.
"They moved students from a school in Centerville to a school here in Woodville," Chief Lemuel Rutledge said. All Wilkinson County school students will now attend either Wilkinson County Elementary or High School, which are both outside of Woodville, Mississippi.
"We'll get a chance to interact more with them. In the past year or so, we've been short-staffed ourselves, so we haven't been able to get in the schools like we wanted, but this year we plan to be in the schools very often," Rutledge said.
Four Student Resource Officers will be present at the schools during the year alongside previous safety measures such as clear backpack requirements and metal detectors.
"We have several things in place to prevent bullying, school shootings," Rutledge said.
Another change this year is the school uniform logos. Each grade will wear a different colored shirt with a different colored logo.
