East Baton Rouge libraries host voter registration drives ahead of November election

BATON ROUGE — East Baton Rouge Parish Libraries are hosting voter registration drives at several branches to help residents sign up ahead of the November general election.
The drives run Sept. 21 through Sept. 25 as part of Voter Registration Week. Library branches across the parish are serving as in-person registration locations for residents who want help completing the process.
"Basically, we want to get rid of any barriers someone might have," said Mary Stein, assistant library director for East Baton Rouge Parish Library.
One of those barriers can be technology. Stein says some residents can register online but still prefer to sit across from someone who can walk them through the process in person.
"We wanna reach everyone, but I'm especially wanting to reach these young adults," Stein said.
Residents planning to register at one of the library locations do not need much preparation. Stein says to just show up with the right documents.
"So simple, just bring a photo ID and something that shows where you physically reside," Stein said.
The deadline to register in person or by mail is Oct. 5. Residents using Louisiana's online registration system have until Oct. 13.
Early voting starts Oct. 20 and Election Day is Nov. 3. For more information, click here.
