Louisiana National Hunting and Fishing Day is around the corner; see where you can join the fun

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana's National Hunting and Fishing Day is coming up Sept. 26 at four locations across the state, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced.
The event is free and open to all ages. Attendees can try shooting ranges, fishing ponds and boating activities and learn about wildlife through live animal demonstrations.
All four locations will include exhibits on LDWF's research and conservation efforts, shooting and fishing demonstrations and exhibits from local chapters of Ducks Unlimited, the Safari Club and the Coastal Conservation Association, as well as local businesses.
The four host locations are:
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, 480 Richland Place Drive, Monroe — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Waddill Wildlife Refuge, 4142 North Flannery Road, Baton Rouge — 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Woodworth Shooting Range, 661 Robinson Bridge Road, Woodworth — 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Bodcau WMA Tom Merrill Recreation Area, 914 Bodcau Dam Road, Haughton — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
National Hunting and Fishing Day has been a tradition since the early 1970s, with every fourth Saturday in September dedicated to Louisiana's outdoor pastimes. LDWF held its first event in 1982 at the Monroe District Office and has added locations over the years.
