Multiple capital area school districts announce closure of schools, offices as intense weather continues

BATON ROUGE — Multiple school districts in the Capital region have closed offices and campuses on Thursday in anticipation of continued heavy rain and the impending Tropical Storm Arthur.

The following school districts have closed on Thursday, June 18: 

Ascension Parish Schools
Summer school classes have been canceled, as well as all district offices and campuses being closed and activities canceled. Twelve-month employees will remain on call as needed to support district operations.

East Baton Rouge Parish
All schools and offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Juneteenth. 

Helix Schools
Campuses will close Thursday, but students will have online class. 

Livingston Parish Schools
Livingston Parish Public Schools will cancel summer school, credit recovery, Fast Forward Summer classes, school activities, and athletics on Thursday. The district office will be open, and twelve-month employees will report to work as normal to support district operations.

Parkview Baptist School
Campus will be closed, with activities canceled.

Pointe Coupee Parish School District
Schools and district offices are closed due to forecasted severe weather. All classes, activities, and events scheduled for tomorrow are canceled.

West Baton Rouge Parish Schools
Out of an abundance of caution, all district offices and school sites will be closed due to the forecasted tropical weather.

Zachary Community School District
All campuses and district offices will be closed out of an abundance of caution.

FranU also said they will implement remote operations for Thursday.

All BREC summer camp programs will be closed Thursday.
