BATON ROUGE — A 34-year-old Albany man was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for distributing fentanyl, according to U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall.

Devonte Skinner was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.

Federal agents said a confidential source bought 3,792 pills containing 539.2 grams of fentanyl from Skinner in a restaurant parking lot on O'Neal Lane in Baton Rouge in 2024. 

Wall said sentencing guidelines called for a much longer prison term and his office is reviewing the judgment and considering all options, including appeal.

HSI New Orleans Acting Special Agent in Charge Matt Wright said the case shows a continued effort to hold fentanyl traffickers accountable in Louisiana.
