BRFD, East Side Fire put out fire along Old Hammond Highway; 2 people hospitalized
BATON ROUGE — A duplex caught fire off Old Hammond Highway on Thursday, resulting in two people being hospitalized.
Firefighters from both the East Side and Baton Rouge fire departments responded to the fire in a set of duplexes along Azalea Park Drive. Baton Rouge Fire officials said their crews arrived at 10:34 a.m.
According to East Side Fire Department officials, the fire is still under investigation, but it likely started in the kitchen of one of the units.

A resident told WBRZ that a husband and wife got taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. They were taken to the hospital by EMS before firefighters arrived.
