BATON ROUGE — This weekend is the Southern University Homecoming Parade, and Councilman Anthony Kenney Jr. has asked residents, students, alumni and visitors to prioritize public safety, traffic awareness and keeping Scotlandville clean throughout the weekend.

The parade is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., with the route going through Scotlandville, which Kenney represents. 

"Southern University Homecoming is one of the biggest weekends of the year for Scotlandville, and we want everyone to enjoy it safely while showing pride in the community that welcomes Jaguars home year after year," Kenney said. "Let's celebrate, have a great time and make sure we leave Scotlandville better than we found it."

Kenney encourages parade attendees to remain alert, follow instructions from law enforcement and public safety personnel, and respect designated pedestrian and traffic areas, and says motorists to expect increased pedestrian activity and congestion throughout the Scotlandville and Southern University areas.

From noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Harding Boulevard, Scenic Highway and Scotlandville Avenue will all have sections blocked off to facilitate the parade. 

Kenney also asks attendees to properly dispose of trash throughout the parade route.

"Scotlandville is our home," Kenney said. "If you see litter, pick it up. Use trash receptacles, respect private property and help us keep our streets and neighborhoods clean and beautiful. Thousands of people will experience our community this weekend, and we want Scotlandville pride to be on full display."
