BATON ROUGE — Southern University, along with the Southern University Law Center, the SU Ag Center and the Southern University Laboratory School, will remain closed on Tuesday due to a campus power outage.

The university said around 5:11 p.m. that campus activities will resume as normal on Wednesday, with electricity being restored across the landmass.

Limited meal services were available at the Mayberry and Dunn dining halls, officials added.

By 9:30 a.m., power was being restored in student residential areas, with the Mayberry Dining Hall closing around this time.

Students told WBRZ, they were surprised by the lack of power on campus.

"I was expecting them to have a generator to give us some sort of power," Kailey Nelson, a freshman, said.

Some students also expressed concern regarding lost instructional time from the power outage.

"We had real classes to do today. We're missing out on class time. And, now, the teachers are going to try to rush us and try to pack all these things into Thursday. It's not going to work," Freshman Amaya Mullings said.

Normal operations and classes are expected to resume on Wednesday.
