PRAIRIEVILLE — Ascension Parish fire crews responded to a house fire in the Keystone of Galvez neighborhood on Monday afternoon, and neighbors are taking donations for the family inside who lost everything.

The fire broke out along Timberstone Drive around 12:45 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already broken through the roof of the home.

Crews from the Galvez Lake Fire Department and Seventh District Fire Department were first on scene, where they encountered heavy black smoke and fire coming from the roof.

As conditions got worse and part of the roof collapsed, crews were pulled out of the structure for safety.

Additional help was called in from Fifth Ward, St. Amant, Geismar, Sorrento and Prairieville Fire Departments. In total, 26 firefighters responded to fight the blaze.

Crews worked for about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control and stayed on scene for about five hours to complete extinguishment, overhaul and assist with the investigation.

Once conditions allowed, firefighters went back inside to finish putting out the fire. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office responded to help determine where and how the fire started.

The fire remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office. No residents or firefighters were injured.

The family of six, which includes a husband, wife, grandmother and three boys, lost everything in the fire. Neighbor Destiny Ducote set up a donation effort on Facebook to collect clothing, toiletries and household items for the family.
