BATON ROUGE — The FedEx driver wanted for allegedly stealing a package containing over $25,000 worth of jewelry was arrested by East Baron Rouge Sheriff's deputies Wednesday.

Jacoby White, 29, was booked on a single charge of theft.

An arrest warrant filed Tuesday said that, on Sept. 29, White went to KG Jewlers to pick up a package containing several lab-grown diamonds that were each estimated to be worth between $5,000 and $10,000, as well as a gold bracelet worth $3,000, among other items.

An hour later, a different FedEx driver showed up to collect the package. A regional FedEx manager told the driver that no package was scanned and that they could not track the package. The complainant later received video from FedEx showing that White covered his dash camera with an air freshener during the route.

When a FedEx manager later asked White about what happened at the end of his route, White said that he drove the truck to his designated location after returning to the facility and gave the package to an employee that collects packages. Police said video surveillance "proved that the defendant lied about dropping off packages at his designated location."
