Grand jury indicts man for murder of Ja'Derrius Minnieweather
BATON ROUGE — A grand jury has indicted a Baton Rouge man who police allege killed 15-year-old Ja'Derrius Minnieweather over the summer and dumped the teenager’s body in a garbage can, leading to a five-week search of a local landfill for his remains.
Minnieweather was reported missing June 5. Nearly two weeks later, police arrested 51-year-old Maurice Parms and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with Minnieweather's death. Parms is accused of killing Minnieweather and putting his body in a garbage can.
Parms was originally arrested in early June for indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer-aided solicitation of a minor after police found messages between Parms and a 16-year-old girl while investigating Minnieweather’s disappearance. According to arrest documents, Parms referred to them being in a relationship. Parms was booked for indecent behavior with juveniles and computer-aided solicitation of a minor on June 10.
After police searched Parms’ home, he was booked for first-degree murder, with officials alleging he killed Minnieweather after a fight on June 4. He was arrested a third time in mid-August facing charges of forcible rape. Trafficking and indecent behavior with a juvenile, additional charges related to his alleged, inappropriate relationship with the 16-year-old girl.
