BATON ROUGE - The head of Impact Charter School, her family members and an independent contractor were indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday in connection with the embezzlement of school funds.

School CEO Chakesha Scott, her husband Eric Scott, daughter Courtney Scott and contractor Sam Green  were criminally indicted. Scott is accused of using school funds for personal use and creating false documents to make personal expenses look like business expenses.

According to the indictment, Chakesha Scott was charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and money laundering and five counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.

The WBRZ Investigative Unit previously reported on an audit, which showed Chakesha Scott allegedly mismanaged nearly one third of the school's yearly expenses, including using money from a school account to pay for trips taken by herself and her family, lease or buy vehicles for personal use, pay off credit card charges that appeared personal in nature and pay for improvements at a building the school did not own.
