ST. FRANCISVILLE — A popular outdoor Easter Sunday sunrise service in St. Francisville is not happening this year.

Hemingbough has been hosting its Easter service for nearly 40 years, but due to a recent change in ownership and the facility undergoing renovations, this year's service was cancelled.

The renovations include reshaping the property's hills, expanding the lake, implementing erosion control and more.

Former WBRZ anchor and reporter Leo Honeycutt has been attending the service for years and says that there's something special about "watching the sun come over the lake as you're facing that direction and it's just beautiful."

"There was always this mist coming over the lake, you have the swans, the ducks, the geese, you have the peacocks, it was like being in a part of heaven," Honeycutt recalled.

The owner of Hemingbough says that they intend to have the service back next Easter.
