SUNSHINE — Two women from Iberville Parish have been crowned state titleholders, and now there is a sign in East Iberville honoring both of them.

Shelby Bordelon, a native of Sunshine, was crowned Miss Louisiana after competing against 30 young women in Monroe.  The Southeastern Louisiana University graduate student also took home a $15,000 college scholarship.

Kristie Mascarella, a St. Gabriel resident, was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Louisiana.  Mascarella was first featured on WBRZ in May, when her custom wheelchair and car were stolen. She reached out to 2 On Your Side for help with an insurance battle after the theft and has since been advocating for accessibility and inclusion for people in the capital region.

Mascarella is currently in Michigan competing at the national level.

"We were proud to install these special signs honoring two of East Iberville’s very own — Miss Louisiana 2026 Shelby Bordelon, a native of Sunshine, and Miss Wheelchair Louisiana 2026 Kristie Mascarella, a resident of St. Gabriel!" reads a post from the Iberville Parish Government's social media page.
