WEST PALM BEACH - An Iberville Parish native has returned home from the national stage with a historic finish.

Shelby Bordelon was named first runner-up to Miss America 2027, bringing Louisiana to the final moment of the competition.

While she came up just short of the crown, Bordelon says the journey was never simply about winning a title. It was about using the platform to honor someone she has never forgotten.

Bordelon created Claire’s Promise, a nonprofit community service initiative named in memory of her lifelong friend, Claire Zeller, who was killed by an impaired driver.

“We really just focus on impaired driving prevention, victim advocacy and spreading Claire’s legacy,” Bordelon said.

That mission followed Bordelon throughout her Miss America journey and remained at the heart of her experience on competition night.

When Miss Texas was announced as Miss America 2027, Bordelon shared an emotional moment with the newly crowned winner.

Bordelon says she wanted to celebrate her accomplishment because of the genuine friendship and kindness she saw throughout the competition.

“She is just so genuinely kind,” Bordelon said. “Being in that position is more than, like, you've ever dreamed of.”

Bordelon said watching her dreams come true made it easy to put the competition aside and celebrate the moment with her.

“Genuinely seeing her dreams come true right in front of my face, there was nothing else I could have imagined but me telling her that I'm just so happy for her,” Bordelon said.

For Bordelon, the night ended with a historic finish — first runner-up to Miss America 2027 — and an opportunity to carry the heart of Iberville Parish and the mission of Claire’s Promise with her into whatever comes next.

And that work continues at home.

On Oct. 3, Bordelon will host Court for a Cause, a pickleball fundraising tournament at Court to Table in Baton Rouge. Proceeds will support Claire’s Promise and its work focused on impaired-driving prevention, victim advocacy and preserving Claire Zeller’s legacy.
