INDEPENDENCE — Twenty-nine-year-old Marquise Jackson, from Independence, is dead and another man is injured following an overnight drive-by shooting in the Town of Independence, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. 

The shooting occurred in the 200 block of Highway 40 between I-55 and Old Highway 51 around 9:30 p.m., according to authorities. 

Jackson succumbed to his injuries while a 20-year-old man was treated and released for his injuries. 

Detectives say the the incident occurred during a birthday party after-party where a vehicle pulled up and started firing into the group. 

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is expected to share additional information on the shooting alongside the Independence Police Department. Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations troopers and the FBI Violent Crime Task Force is also working the case.
