BATON ROUGE — Starting in October, all 138 Louisiana SONIC Drive-In locations will be serving a drink inspired by Louisiana and its state animal. 

Beginning Oct. 1 and running through March 31, 2027, SONIC will be serving the Blue Pelican Slush, which includes Sprite, blue coconut flavoring and sweet cream blended into a slush. Proceeds from sales of the slush will go to supporting efforts to help keep Louisiana's waterways and communities clean.

State officials said that the drink was created by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser in collaboration with carhops at the Amite SONIC.

"There's nothing more Louisiana than taking something fun, making it our own, and finding a way to give back," Nungesser said in a statement. "The Blue Pelican Slush has taken on a life of its own, and now it is going statewide. That means more people can enjoy a little taste of Louisiana while also doing their part to protect the places we all love. Every sip is another opportunity to remind people that keeping Louisiana beautiful starts with all of us."

The statewide launch marks the expansion of a partnership that began in 2025, when Pray SONIC created the Blue Pelican Slush to raise awareness and funds for the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Foundation. This original promotion donated 100% of proceeds from every Blue Pelican Slush sold to support efforts focused on preventing marine litter in Louisiana's waterways.

"We started the Blue Pelican Slush because we wanted to create something that was uniquely Louisiana and give our guests a way to Sip with a Purpose," Lori Moresi, Marketing Director for Pray SONIC, said. "What started in our local communities has grown into something much bigger. We are incredibly excited to see the Blue Pelican Slush available at all 138 SONIC Drive-Ins across Louisiana and to bring this partnership and its mission to the entire state."

The statewide promotion will be celebrated during a special event at 10 a.m. on Oct. 8 at the SONIC Drive-In on Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge.
