Daily afternoon storms aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The Capital Area is locked in a typical late-summer pattern, with no cold fronts in sight to break up the heat and humidity.

Tonight & Tomorrow: Following an afternoon of strong storms, skies will clear during the evening. Expect some sunshine on Tuesday morning with temperatures resetting in the mid-70s. As temperatures warm into the mid-90s by afternoon, skies will turn partly sunny. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms will remain a possibility. Like Monday, any storms will be capable of gusty winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. Brief, localized flooding cannot be ruled out where downpours linger.

Up Next: An upper-level disturbance moving along the northern Gulf Coast will keep daily thunderstorm chances elevated through the rest of the week. Over half the local area is expected to see at least one storm each day. While cloud cover and rainfall should offer brief relief from the peak heat, daily high temperatures will still top out in the lower 90s. For the second weekend in a row, lingering storminess will be a factor as LSU football prepares to host another Saturday night matchup in Death Valley. Timing details will be ironed out later in the week. Afternoon storm activity may tick down slightly toward the start of next week, though isolated pop-up showers and thunderstorms still remain in the forecast.

The Tropics: No tropical development is expected over the next seven days across the Gulf, Caribbean, or Atlantic. This is remarkable given that the peak of hurricane season is only days away. Dating back to 1950, only the 1992 and 2025 seasons did not have any tropical activity between September 5 and 15.
