An area of low pressure less than 200 miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands has organized into a Tropical Depression, the seventh of the season.

Satellite data have shown the system is producing winds of 40 to 45 mph north of its center, which has gradually become better defined. A large area of showers and thunderstorms has also gotten more organized.

Moving northwestward to northward, Seven could briefly strengthen into Tropical Storm Gonzalo. Then, increasing upper-level winds are expected to prevent further development over the weekend.

Residents in the Cabo Verde Islands should monitor the system's progress, as gusty winds, heavy rain and flash flooding are possible over the islands by Friday. Heavy rain and flash flooding could also affect areas well to the east along the coast of western Africa, particularly in western portions of Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and southwest portions of Mauritania.
