As Tropical Storm Edouard makes landfall near the Texas and Louisiana border later on today, minimal impacts are expected around the area. The one thing it will do is increase rain chances, with numerous showers and storms. 

Today & Tonight: This morning, Tropical Storm Edouard is spinning just south of the Louisiana coastline. In the AM hours, the best chance of seeing some outer rain bands will be south of Baton Rouge, closer to the coast. These bands will move further inland as the day progresses. Numerous showers and storms are expected, meaning 70% of the 13 parish, 2 county wide viewing area will pick up measurable rainfall. Heavy rain and gusty winds will be possible in these tropical downpours. High temperatures will be warm, near 90° under mostly cloudy skies.

Up Next: The remainder of the forecast remains typical for the late summer, defined by persistent 90° temperatures and periodic afternoon storms. Some days will feature more storms thanks to atmospheric disturbances. The next system is projected to arrive late in the week, specifically Thursday and Friday, before moving out ahead of Labor Day Weekend.

The Tropics: Tropical Storm Edouard is currently spinning off the Gulf Coast with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, and both satellite and Lake Charles radar show its center forming a tight, organized core. Thanks to low wind shear and extremely warm 88°F water, conditions are ripe for quick strengthening before the system moves ashore. Computer models differ on exactly how strong Edouard will get, but rapid intensification right before landfall remains a real possibility, with top winds potentially reaching 60 to 65 mph near the coast. A high-pressure system over the Southeast will steer Edouard west-northwest, setting up a landfall near the Louisiana-Texas border later today before pushing inland over East Texas tonight and rapidly weakening.
