Baton Rouge's Highland Road police station may move to a new location downtown
BATON ROUGE — City officials plan to move the Baton Rouge Police Station located on Highland Road to a larger, undecided location downtown, according to a report by The Advocate.
The move would make the station the second BRPD downtown location, as a station already exists on Third Street near the State Capitol building.
City leaders say the move is due to police having outgrown the Highland location, as the building is getting older.
While the station may be moving, the amount of patrols and services in the Old South Baton Rouge area will remain the same, according to officials.
The move is also anticipated to improve safety in the downtown area during events and festivals where heavier foot traffic is expected.
