BATON ROUGE — One person is dead after being shot by Baton Rouge Police inside an abandoned apartment building along Titian Avenue on Tuesday morning. 

According to Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse, the now-deceased person was a domestic violence suspect who, just before midnight on Monday, stabbed an elderly man about 20 times. 

The suspect then led police on a pursuit until abandoning the vehicle and running inside the apartments along Titian Avenue. 

Morse said, after several hours of negotiating to remove the suspect from the building, drones and canine units were eventually sent in. The suspect then began fighting with the police dogs and officers. 

Morse added that the suspect was then fatally shot by one of the officers during this encounter. 

The officer who shot the suspect has since been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. 

Morse noted that the suspect had a lengthy criminal history and that more information will be released throughout the day. 

This is the second officer-involved shooting in Baton Rouge over the last several days. On Sunday, an officer shot a man allegedly threatening people with a rifle along Harding Boulevard.
