EBRSO investigating officer-involved shooting in West Baton Rouge Parish
PORT ALLEN — The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was involved in an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning.
According to deputies, they received a call of shots fired on North River Road, near Catherine Road shortly after midnight.
Officials said the suspect vehicle was seen fleeing the area and later pulled into Silver's Truck Stop and Casino on Hwy 190. As the deputy arrived at the truck stop the vehicle sped out of the parking lot.
The deputy reportedly turned on his lights to attempt to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle did not stop. The suspect vehicle drove to the Gremillion Road extension and one of the passengers got out of the car with a rifle and handgun. Officials later discovered the passenger's handgun was stolen from St. Martin Parish.
The deputy fired at the suspect with the gun resulting in a non-life-threatening injury. That suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment and will be booked upon release.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle fled but was caught shortly and the third occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody on the scene.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office will be investigating and suspect information will be released when charges are determined.
