BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Lottery Corporation is marking 35 years since it launched its first scratch-off game.

The Lottery released Louisiana Treasures on Sept. 6, 1991, and has since grown into a major source of funding for K-12 public education in the state.

Louisiana voters approved a constitutional amendment in 1990 that created the Louisiana Lottery Corporation. The organization then introduced its flagship draw-style game, Lotto, before expanding its portfolio to include Pick 3 and Pick 4, Easy 5, Mega Millions and Powerball.

Fast Play was added in June and Pick 5 in August of 2021, rounding out the Lottery's full lineup of games.

Over its 35-year history, the Lottery has generated more than $14.7 billion in revenue. A constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2004 directed Lottery proceeds to the Minimum Foundation Program, which funds K-12 public education in Louisiana.

Since that amendment took effect, the Lottery has transferred more than $5.1 billion to the program, which represents more than 35% of its total revenue.

The Lottery has also sponsored professional, semi-professional and university sports teams as well as festivals and events across the state.

To mark the anniversary, the Lottery launched a campaign that included a 35 anniversary family of games featuring an updated version of the Louisiana Treasures scratch-off. The campaign also included second-chance cash prize drawings, social media and radio giveaways and in-store promotions.

"The Lottery's mission has always been to generate maximum revenue for the State of Louisiana while upholding the highest standards of integrity and public trust," said Lottery President Rose Hudson. "We are proud to have not only lived up to our mission, but to have brought several reasons to smile to Louisiana residents for the last 35 years."
