BATON ROUGE — Louisiana State Police cracked down on commercial trucks driving in the left lane of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge yesterday, issuing 26 citations during a targeted enforcement detail.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Regions I and II, along with LSP Air Support, carried out the operation along the bridge in St. Martin and Iberville parishes. State police said the agency had received numerous complaints about commercial vehicles traveling in the left lane, which violates state law and raises safety and traffic concerns.

Troopers conducted 26 commercial vehicle inspections during the detail. All 26 drivers were cited for disregarding traffic control devices that require commercial vehicles to stay in the right lane.

Four additional safety violations were also identified during the inspections. One driver was placed out of service.

Louisiana State Police said enforcement efforts along the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge will continue.
