LSUPD: Man robbed at gunpoint while trying to sell sneakers outside campus apartments
BATON ROUGE — A man was robbed at gunpoint by three people while trying to sell a pair of sneakers in an LSU parking lot, according to an arrest affidavit.
Arrest documents show the victim was waiting in his car with a passenger outside the LSU West Campus Apartments on Oct. 23.
He was trying to sell a pair of Jordan 12s to Divine Hayes, 18, when two other people approached the vehicle, the affidavit says. One of them allegedly walked up to the driver's side window, pointed a gun at the victim and said, "Give it up."
Once the victim handed over the shoes, Hayes and the other two suspects allegedly left together in another car.
According to LSUPD, the trio came from South Hall and returned there after the robbery.
Investigators learned that one of the three men was Wendell Riggins III, an LSU student who lived in South Hall, the affidavit says. He was arrested on Oct. 29 and allegedly gave Divine's name and phone number to police during questioning.
