BAYOU L'OURSE — Deputies arrested a man after he allegedly killed a woman's dog after attacking it with a machete.

Officials were called to a home on Andras Street for a domestic disturbance. The woman told deputies that she woke up on Saturday to Kevin Lightell, 29, standing over her with a machete.

Lightell attempted to strike her with the machete as she fled from the bedroom and had already inflicted major injuries to the dog. The dog died Sunday evening.

Lightell was booked for aggravated cruelty to animals, domestic abuse/aggravated assault and simple escape.
