PORT ALLEN - Trash services for West Baton Rouge Parish residents who use Waste Pro may be getting more expensive. 

During its last meeting, city council members heard a proposal to raise the monthly trash collection cost by $2.40, but decrease the administrative fee by 21 cents. The cost of an extra can would jump from $10 to $10.81. 

For one can, the yearly cost would raise about $26. 

The proposed ordinance says that the council has determined that "charges and fees on solid waste and trash collection shall be adjusted to keep up with current levels of demand."

The change would not effect Port Allen residents who use Republic Services. 

The item will be discussed at the upcoming council meeting on Oct. 8.
