Almost every day out of the next seven will feature above average temperatures, except Thursday. This is thanks to numerous to widespread storms expected around the region.

Today & Tonight: The typical summer routine will continue for the middle of the workweek. Sunny conditions will dominate early, quickly sending temperatures into the 90s. Wednesday afternoon may turn out to be the warmest of the workweek, with highs near 97 degrees. Storm development is expected once we hit our high temperature, but not everyone will get wet. Storms will be isolated in nature before fizzling out after dark. Storm chances will rise again after midnight, and especially closer to daybreak as an upper-level disturbance swings through. This means that wet roadways will be possible for the AM commute, so you might have to leave your house a bit earlier than normal. 

Up Next: Storms will be likely on Thursday and we could get a pretty early start to the action. The general thinking for the rain forecast is an early round of storms lasting through the mid-morning, with new storm development possible in the PM hours. There is still some wiggle room in the exact timing, so check in with the Storm Station often as confidence improves. Lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds will be possible in thunderstorms. If you work outside or have afternoon outdoor plans on Thursday, keep your phone charged with weather alerts enabled.

As we head into Friday and the weekend, a ridge of high pressure is going to expand a bit over the Capital Area. It won't completely wipe out rain chances, but it will keep storms isolated to scattered in nature. Expect just hit and miss pop-up storms late in the afternoon once temperatures top out in the mid-90s.

The Tropics: An area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave, located a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, is producing showers and thunderstorms that are displaced to the southwest of its center. Environmental conditions remain somewhat
favorable for development over the next couple of days, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the next day or two as the system moves westward to west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. Environmental conditions are forecast to become less favorable by this weekend, potentially ending its chances for development.
