BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Society of the Sons of the Revolution honored a pivotal Revolutionary War battle fought in Baton Rouge on Saturday.

Hosted by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana State Museum, the annual ceremony commemorated the Battle of Baton Rouge, which took place on Sept. 21, 1779, in which Spanish Gov. Bernardo de Galvez and multinational forces captured the British-held fort at Baton Rouge.

The ceremony paid tribute to those who fought for liberty and recognized Louisiana's role in the American Revolution. 

Following the ceremony was the dedication of Louisiana's first Carters of Freedom Monument on the grounds of Capitol Park Museum. The monument featured full-size replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Civil Rights Amendments.
