'First Tuesday' initiative brings over 200 volunteers to local non-profits across Capital Region
BATON ROUGE — Over 200 volunteers spent Tuesday morning giving back to the community, lending a helping hand at roughly 10 local non-profits, including Companion Animal Alliance and St. Vincent de Paul.
The day of service kicked off with breakfast at First United Methodist Church before volunteers headed out across the area to work on various projects.
"We just keep on scrubbing," one volunteer shared. "Every month, finding more people who want to get out and volunteer—I think the more non-profits and people that show up, it gets easier for us to get up and go volunteer."
The effort is part of the "First Tuesday" initiative, which has served the Baton Rouge area for four years and recently expanded into Denham Springs last month. The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month, and community members are invited to participate individually or sign up with friends and co-workers.
