Town of Livingston says water line hit during culvert replacement
LIVINGSTON - The Town of Livingston is working to repair a water line that was struck Tuesday morning while crews were replacing a culvert.
Shortly before noon, town officials said crews who were replacing a culvert along Blind Street had hit a water line and were working on a repair.
In a post Tuesday evening, the town said that maps indicated that the water line was supposed to be five feet under the canal, but was directly under the culvert.
"There was no way of us knowing until it was hit," the town said.
Currently, crews from Livingston and Livingston Parish are working together to remove a section of roadway that is more than 18 inches thick in order to access the leak.
Officials said the process involves installing a valve up the line to stop the water, cutting a culvert to make the repair and avoiding a gas line that could be nearby.
