BATON ROUGE — Gov. Jeff Landry signed two executive orders on Monday afternoon in an attempt to help those who wish to invest in Louisiana businesses.

The orders included the Expedited Environmental Permitting executive order and the Securing Louisiana's Mineral Supply Chain executive order.

"For decades now, the federal government has basically bogged down both small and large businesses into a labyrinth of regulatory permitting bureaucracy," Landry said. "And really and truly it has killed businesses and jobs across the country."

According to Landry, the Supreme Court has made it clear that most of the permitting needed today is mostly at the state level. The new order aims to inform people who wish to invest in local businesses if they need a federal permit or a state permit at the beginning of the process. State agencies will assist in ensuring that the process is streamlined.

The second executive order aims to secure Louisiana's mineral supply chain.

"We're in a race to beat China, and China has been beating us for decades," Landry said. "But all of a sudden under the Trump Administration he's made national security an important and integral part of America's economy, and you do that by securing our critical mineral supply chain."

The executive order ensures that the permitting process for extracting, mining or refining critical minerals is done in an expedited manner, shortening previous processes.
