BATON ROUGE - The man convicted of dumping the body of a Georgia contractor who came to Baton Rouge and fatally overdosed was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison Monday.

Derrick Perkins, a man who law enforcement said is a known drug dealer and goes by "Stanka," was sentenced to 18 years for obstruction of justice and three years for unlawful disposal of remains. His sentences will run concurrent to one another and he will receive credit for time served.

WBRZ previously reported Millard arrived in Baton Rouge on Feb. 22, 2023, which was the last day that he spoke with his family. After attending an LSU basketball game, Millard went to a downtown bar, where he was last seen leaving around midnight.

For a week, his family pleaded for answers as the Baton Rouge Police Department was investigating the disappearance as a missing person's case

Millard's body was found dumped in a vacant lot on March 6. His body had been rolled up in a rug and then wrapped in plastic. The coroner's office said the body did not have any signs of trauma and determined that there was no foul play in his death.

BRPD officers arrested Perkins March 20, nearly a month after Millard went missing, for dumping the body. Documents said Millard told a security guard at the bus station he was looking for "something to make him feel better" and "a girl to take back to his room."

That person reportedly introduced Millard to Perkins and a prostitute. They traveled to a home along Lorri Burgess Avenue, just off Highland Road, where Millard overdosed on a combination of crack cocaine and alcohol while he was with two prostitutes, Tiffany Guidry and Tabbetha Barner.

Documents say that Perkins rolled the body up and stashed it in the trunk of his car until "the odor got too bad," and he dumped it. The car was found burned, but police dogs were still able to detect the scent of "human decomposition" in the trunk, BRPD said.

Perkins was arrested for unlawful disposal of remains, obstruction of justice, simple criminal damage to property, failure to seek assistance and also faces counts for illegally using Millard's debit card after his death.

He was formally charged with unlawful disposal of human remains and obstruction of justice, which he pleaded guilty to in November 2025.
