BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge judge has set the trial dates for District Attorney Hillar Moore’s lawsuit against East Baton Rouge Parish, Mayor-President Sid Edwards and the Metro Council.

Moore initially filed suit against the city-parish government in April for millions of dollars in an effort to gain more funding for the DA’s office. Late last month, the Louisiana Supreme Court declined to hear arguments over whether additional municipalities should be a part of the lawsuit.

The lawsuit is currently being fast-tracked as a summary proceeding. City-parish attorneys tried to have the lawsuit converted to ordinary proceedings, but that was declined Thursday by a judge.

A two-day trial has been set by Judge Tarvald Smith for Dec. 14 and 16, but Moore says he will still be negotiating for a compromise.

“In between, we're still trying to resolve the matter with the city government before it goes to trial,” Moore said.

Representatives from the city-parish government were unable to be reached for comment.
