LDWF: Morgan City shrimpers arrested for illegal mods to turtle excluder devices
MORGAN CITY — Two Morgan City shrimpers were cited for illegally modifying their turtle excluder devices, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Thursday.
LDWF said agents stopped Brent Boudreaux, 62, as he was fishing in Oyster Bayou on Aug. 17.
According to LDWF, Boudreaux had tied the ends of the flaps on his double-cover TED in a crisscross manner, which is illegal.
The next day, agents patrolling the Gulf stopped Thomas Ackman, 57. He allegedly used plastic cable ties to hold the flaps of his TED closed — also an illegal modification.
Agents seized 155 pounds of shrimp from Boudreaux and 18 pounds from Ackman, and sold them all to the highest bidder.
